Even if you persuasively and graciously share the truth and the person rejects your point, I’d still say you succeeded 100%. This is why.
I believe parents are responsible for their children’s spiritual training. Of course, pastors, youth leaders, and Sunday school teachers can help. But parents have to do most of the work. Frankly, that makes me nervous. I’m still going to try my best, though. Last month, I took my son to the center of UCLA’s campus during an abortion protest and had him engage abortion-choice advocates that were twice his age. I know that sounds a little crazy, but I’m a firm believer in the principle of inoculation.

Currently, they have no president. Fifty churches have been burned in the last month, and scores of Christians were targeted for no reason. The country is in chaos. What can we do? Nothing. At least, that’s what it seems like. The reality is, however, you’ve already made a difference to Christians living in this hostile environment.

...at the University of California, San Diego. It was the same event I blogged about the other day. In that blog post, I mentioned how I was able to have calm and productive conversations with pro-choice students about abortion in front of a provocative exhibit. Sure, I was able to do that, but can we train other Christians to do it? Absolutely!
...at the University of California, San Diego and asked them what they thought of abortion. They were walking by an abortion exhibit that Justice For All (WARNING: graphic pictures at that site, but not on the linked page) had set up in the center of campus. Of course, all of them said abortion should remain legal. So, what was my job? Try to persuade them that abortion is immoral because it kills an innocent child…without getting in a fight.
