Why Did Jesus Die and Come to Life Again?

Easter is coming up, and if you’re looking for a way to explain to people what it’s all about, Greg has a new book titled The Story of Why God Died and Came to Life Again. It’s adapted from the chapters of The Story of Reality focusing on, you guessed it, why Jesus died and rose again.

From the introduction:

It is clear to most people that the world is not the way it ought to be. Something has gone terribly wrong, and everybody knows it….

We are broken, true enough. But we are not simply malfunctioning. We are not machines that need to be fixed. We are transgressors who need to be forgiven. We have not merely “made mistakes,” like getting our sums wrong when balancing accounts. We have sinned. And with sin comes guilt. And with guilt comes punishment….

Man must pay, but he cannot pay. He must be freed, but slaves cannot free themselves. He desperately needs a rescuer. He needs to be saved by someone who does not himself owe, and who is not himself enslaved.

The Story could have ended here, since God owes no man a pardon. But this is not the end of the story. It is the beginning. With man lost and helpless and the world terribly broken, God Himself steps into the picture to initiate a rescue operation.

The rescuer is not an ordinary hero, though. He is a man, but not an ordinary man—a true man, of course, but still completely unique. He is called Immanuel, God with us. His name is Jesus of Nazareth.

Let me tell you about Him.

Greg’s style in this book is very easy to read, even though he weaves apologetics into his explanation of who Jesus is and what He came to do. It’s a book you might want to always have on hand to offer people after spiritual conversations (our store offers quantity discounts), but it’s especially helpful around Easter.
