It's baffling how smart people can accept what is obviously false.Which is more significant in identifying someone's sex - facial hair or having a womb?  Well, if it's having facial hair, then there are a lot of people we call women who are actually men.  Of course, it's having a womb.  And that's why continuing to call Ms. Beatie a man who is having a baby patently absurd.

What's Relevant, What Isn't

They (Prop 8 proponents) are simply lying to you.  They will do whatever it takes.  Thank you Knights of Columbus.  Thank you to the (Roman Catholic) Church for funding.  Who knows what the next Proposition 8 is?  Is there an initiative to take the rights away from people of different races who have the audacity to get married?  What would stop someone from doing that?  Nothing.  Will we have a Proposition 9 next year?

Liberal Support for Traditional Marriage

This self-described liberal Democrat supports California's Proposition 8, which would constitutionally define marriage between one man and one woman because, as the piece so well explains, marriage, as a societal institution recognized by government, is about children.  I don't agree with the sociological claim that marriage evolves over time and implies that it's a mere social convention, though it is interesting to me that it seems to indicate that the differences in marria

Is Morality Natural?

Of course, the Newsweek article concludes it is.  But there's no evidence that it is, other than that many of the moral choices we make are fairly universal. These studies suggest that nature handed us a moral grammar that fuels our intuitive judgments of right and wrong.
