Quick Thought - Why Do We Need God for Morality?

Let’s say you’re in a Chinese food restaurant. At the end of your meal, you crack open the fortune cookie, and it says, “Get up, and leave now.” How many of you would get up and leave? Would you feel obligated to obey that command? I don’t think anyone would.

Quick Thought - Biblical Case for the Trinity

The Bible clearly teaches that there’s only one God in Deuteronomy 6:4, Isaiah 43:10, Isaiah 44:6&8, John 17:3, and more. There’s the “oneness” part of the Trinity.  The baptism of Jesus in Matthew 3 is a great example that distinguishes the Father, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus. Quick Thought - Knowledge Is Not the Enemy of Faith

The claim that knowledge is the enemy of faith is not a scientific claim; it’s a philosophical claim. For those who believe that faith is the enemy of knowledge, philosophy can help us out here. Specifically, we need epistemology in order to figure out what knowledge and and faith are.

Work with your youth pastor and come up with a basic theology test. Collect the tests, and then look at them. The typical Christian kid is going to fail that test miserably. Jesus referenced that law and told his followers in 5:41, “if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.”

Quick Thought - Is there a Soul?

Three problems with physicalism: Number one, physicalism can’t account for our mental lives. Problem number two is that physicalism can’t give you free will. Third problem is physicalism can’t give us an enduring self or identity over time.

Quick Thought - Inerrancy and Inspiration

Do we have to think the Bible is the word of God in order to benefit from it? 2nd Timothy 3 talks about the Bible being God-breathed. Inerrancy is the idea that everything the Bible affirms as true is actually true.

Quick Thought - Combating Apathy among Youth

How do we combat apathy within our youth? Number one, question them. Start forcing them to answer questions about what they believe and why they believe it. Introduce questions and challenges, and help them to see that they don’t know as much as they think they know.
