Concerns about Medical Treatments for Children with Gender Dysphoria
A pediatrician, an endocrinologist, and a psychiatrist explain their concerns about the medical treatments being given to children with gender dysphoria.
When Does Life Begin?
Scientists have discovered in a recent study that it isn’t the mother’s body directing embryonic activity; the embryo determines that itself.
Why Abortion Is Unjust Discrimination
Our new motion graphic video on the S.L.E.D. test explains why no human being—regardless of size, race, sex, etc.—should be excluded from the community of human persons. COMMENTS Read more posts
The Problem of Good
I read Martin Short’s autobiography this weekend. I’ve had the impression that Short is one of those celebrities who seems like a regular guy; he’s led a pretty normal life despite his celebrity. A family man, married for 30 years. I enjoyed reading the book.
End of Life Care Includes Euthanasia in Quebec
Wesley J. Smith reports that Quebec has created a new right – the right to be euthanized with the help of a medical professional. Positive rights such as this law create obligations on others. In this case, every institution that provides medical and nursing care in the province is required to find a medical person to administer aid in dying.
Ethical Stem Cell Therapies Are the Successful Therapies
Christianity Today reports: [Scientists] have learned how to reprogram adult cells so that they can do many things an embryonic cell can do. No human embryos are destroyed in the process. Along the way, embryonic stem cells—just a decade ago hailed as the future of medicine—have largely been bypassed. Some researchers still use them, but for now, the future belongs to adult stem cells and iPS cells, which are adult cells genetically reprogrammed to express specific genes.
The Second Story
As I listen to many of the subjects in debate today in our culture - the dialog between secularists and Christians - there's a fundamental difference in perspectives that I think we need to be aware of if we're going to try to be persuasive. Faith and religion have been relegated to the realm of wishful thinking and personal preference. For many we're talking with and in the public discourse, it has nothing to do with reality. Religion is a personal taste, like ice cream, so it's bizarre to them that we're trying to get them to like the same flavor we like.
Late-term Abortion
Here's a recording of the counseling a woman received who went in for a late-term abortion - what she was told about the procedure and what to expect. The callousness with which they discuss killing the baby is disturbing. In fact, they repeatedly refer to the baby as "the pregnancy." They also dissemble when the woman asks about the baby experiencing pain, which babies clearly do by 20 weeks.
Texas Abortion Law
The filibuster in the Texas legislature over the abortion legislation has overshadowed what the law is actually meant to do. One of the primary things the proposed law would do is ban late-term abortions (i.e. D&X abortions) that occur after the 20th week of gestation. Not only are these children usually viable outside the womb, they feel pain, and the procedure is more like infanticide than abortion. Greg describes the procedure in question here.
