Alan's monthly letter for January 2014 On May 1, 2009, Scott Roeder walked into Reformation Lutheran Church, pulled out a gun, and shot George Tiller in the head at point blank range. Tiller was a late-term abortion provider. Every pro-life leader and organization I know condemned the killing.
Alan's monthly letter for December 2013 You know the gay rights narrative. Homosexuals are born that way, change is impossible, and their behavior is morally permissible. For those who believe in a higher power, God made them gay and loves them that way. Homosexuals should find moral parity with the plight of African Americans during their struggle for civil rights.
Alan's monthly letter for November 2013 It’s not uncommon to find people who deny that Jesus rose from the dead. After all, a resurrection is supernatural. Dying, on the other hand, is natural. Yet, strangely enough, there are people who deny that Jesus died on the cross. Who would believe such a thing? It turns out at least 20% of the world’s population thinks Christ never died.
Alan's monthly letter for October 2013 Dear Friend, Christians in Egypt are suffering. Their country has had two violent revolutions and three presidents in the last two years. Currently, they have no president. Fifty churches have been burned in the last month, and scores of Christians were targeted for no reason. The country is in chaos. What can we do? Nothing. At least, that’s what it seems like. The reality is, however, you’ve already made a difference to Christians living in this hostile environment.
Alan's monthly letter for September 2013 Dear Friend, “How do you stay positive when change seems impossible?” My wife’s question caught me off guard. I had just returned from working in Beirut, Lebanon, training Egyptian Christians in theology and apologetics. Although my training and overall trip went great, I shared with her a story that troubled me.
Alan's monthly letter for August 2013 Dear Friend, The “experts” have spoken. Change in sexual orientation is not possible. Homosexuality, we’re told, is an inborn and unchangeable trait, like eye color. Case closed. This implies that adolescents with same-sex attraction (SSA) or homoerotic dreams are manifesting symptoms of an underlying reality: They are homosexual. Because sexual orientation is fixed at birth (so the theory goes), these desires will endure through their teenage years and into adulthood.
Alan's monthly letter for July 2013 Dear Friend, Go ahead and skip church this Sunday. No need to give thanks for your next meal. You might as well throw this letter in the trash, too. Christianity is a meaningless religion and a waste of time…if…. If what? If the resurrection of Jesus is not a historical fact, your faith is a joke. Christianity stands or falls on whether Jesus of Nazareth walked out of His tomb the Sunday after His death.
Alan's monthly letter for June 2013 Dear Friend, Do you agree with God? What would it take for you to declare something good that God says is bad? Money, power, or fame? Unfortunately, many believers are willing to part ways from Scripture for a lot less.
Alan's monthly letter for December 2011 Dear Friend, Wow! That word captures how I feel about our partnership in 2011. I’m amazed at what we accomplished together. Thanks to you, our impact training believers surpassed previous years. I can’t thank you enough. I am grateful and humbled by your faithful giving towards my work with Stand to Reason (STR).
