Steve Wagner is prepared to give talks on the following topics. To find out how to schedule Steve please contact amy at amy@str.org.
Common Ground without Compromise Are you tired of seeing abortion discussions degenerate into a war of angry words? Do you keep quiet on abortion because you fear offending people? Drawing on hundreds of hours of conversation with pro-choice advocates, pro-life trainer Steve Wagner will help you create more productive dialogue on abortion by finding common ground with those who disagree without giving up your core beliefs.
Abortion: Three Stories In this engaging pro-life message for youth ages 12 and up, Steve shares three stories that motivate students to learn to think clearly about abortion. Instead of telling students what to believe, Steve offers solid reasons for being pro-life, tools for persuading friends, and a forum-style opportunity to raise questions and offer opinions.
Reaching Hearts and Minds on Abortion When you speak out against abortion, do you find the conversation stalls out because the other person simply rejects your assertions? In this presentation, Steve will equip you to give reasons for your pro-life views in a persuasive and sensitive way. After he equips you with the scientific facts and philosophical arguments you need to help people rethink their positions on abortion, you’ll leave eager to defend your pro-life views.
Stem Cell Research: What Should We Do? Should we support embryonic stem cell research and cloning? Is the research compassionate to suffering people, or is it taking innocent human life? In this presentation, Steve will help the audience understand the basic science of stem cell research in terms anyone can understand, develop accurate moral conclusions, and take practical steps for helping society implement policies that both protect the vulnerable and help the sick.
Abortion: Woman's Right or Human Rights Violation? Is abortion a basic human right, or is it a human rights violation? How should those who desire to protect the vulnerable and oppressed members of society respond to unplanned pregnancy? In this lecture, Steve Wagner makes a case for human rights in general, applies his arguments to the issue of abortion, and allows plenty of time for audience members to offer opposing views.
In God’s Image Many Christians wish the abortion issue would just go away, but they find their friends and even their fellow worshippers are struggling with unplanned pregnancies and the question of abortion. Drawing on key Biblical texts, Steve Wagner will help each member of your congregation represent Christ’s view on abortion while expressing compassionate concern for pregnant women in distress. Rather than being embarrassed to use the Bible in public argument, Steve will show how our creation “in the image of God” is the only solid ground for all human rights.
Ambassadors for Christ: The Essential Skills An effective ambassador has three essential skills. First, an ambassador must have the basic knowledge necessary for his task (an accurately informed mind). Second, he needs wisdom, the kind of tactical diplomacy that helps make his message clear and persuasive (an artful method). Third, the ambassador’s character (an attractive manner) will either make or break his message. This talk will show in detail what steps need to be taken in each of these areas for a Christian ambassador to make a difference in the culture of the 21st Century. Relativism, Tolerance, and Truth Moral relativism—the idea that there are no absolutes when it comes to right and wrong—is deadly to our culture, and deadly to the Gospel. Characterized by comments like “Don’t force your morality on me” and “Who are you to say?,” relativism is the engine that drives political correctness. In this talk, Steve exposes the myth of moral neutrality and provides compelling arguments to show why neither individual preference nor cultural convention is adequate to make sense of ethics. He then suggests practical tactics you can use to show others they don’t really believe morality is purely an individual matter.
Tactics in Defending the Faith Are you tired of finding yourself flat-footed and intimidated in conversations about your faith and values? Want to increase your confidence and skill in discussions, no matter whom you’re talking to? Then Tactics is for you. You’ll learn specific skills to help you initiate conversations effortlessly, stop challengers in their tracks and turn the tables, graciously and effectively expose faulty thinking, and present the truth clearly, cleverly, and persuasively. Your conversations with friends can look more like diplomacy than warfare. After this presentation, you will be stronger and better equipped to skillfully present your faith and the reasons why Jesus Christ is the answer.
Responding Biblically to Global Injustice Are you overwhelmed and discouraged when you hear about global injustice? Do you feel that there are too many injustices to be able to make much of a difference? This presentation will help you respond to injustice by following the model found in Psalms 9 and 10: Instead of going to the extremes of hard-heartedness or worry, trust God to stop injustice and partner with Him to help in the ways you can.
Visual Images: Which Are Appropriate When? Should pro-life advocates use pictures to make their case against abortion? What types of pictures should be used during private conversations, public presentations, and outreach events on abortion? In this forum-style discussion, Steve will outline the common ground that’s possible among the opposing perspectives on the use of images, will make a brief argument for using images of all types, and then facilitate a dialogue among pro-life advocates.
The Effective Pro-Life Club Is your pro-life club looking for ways to make a greater impact? In this presentation, Steve Wagner shares engaging stories and three criteria to help you ensure that your club activities do more than make a statement: you’ll change hearts and minds.
Pro-Life 101 Don’t be caught empty handed when you’re asked to defend your pro-life views. Make a case that changes hearts and saves lives. This presentation will help you simplify the abortion issue for those who think it's complex, give a good argument for the value of the unborn, and respond to the most common objections to the pro-life view (2-4 hour seminar).
Making Abortion Unthinkable Featuring Stand to Reason’s groundbreaking Making Abortion Unthinkable curriculum, this seminar will help you develop the art of pro-life persuasion. You’ll learn to restore meaning to the word abortion, simplify the issue, clarify the biological facts about the unborn, make a philosophical case that the unborn has equal rights to the rest of us, and respond to common objections (5-7 hour seminar).
For the ideal learning experience, ask for the additional outreach component. Steve will create a turn-key opportunity for them to practice what they’ve learned by creating dialogue with pro-choice advocates while Steve is standing by to offer encouragement, perspective, or to answer questions the students can’t answer, modeling for them a reasonable, compassionate approach. After the event, Steve leads the students in reflecting on the experience so they leave looking forward to purposefully creating dialogue with pro-choice advocates in the future.
Support-Raising for Ordinary People Are you interested in becoming a full-time pro-life advocate but don't know how to begin? This workshop examines the philosophical and Biblical foundation for support-raising and then gives a complete program that will help pro-life advocates raise a full salary in minimum time.
